Product Description / Contents

Many popular festive pieces for organ (toccatas, sorties, marches, etc.) are too long to be used in church services and especially in special services like weddings. The music at the end of the service in particular should not be too long; frequently, the pews empty half way through a postlude that lasts longer than five minutes, or the congregation starts getting restive and impatient, and this can put the organist off.

This collection of arrangements of well-known and popular organ works of this type aims to address this problem: most of the pieces in this volume were originally written in ABA form, with a (mostly) quieter central section. If this is omitted and the two outer sections are merged to form a meaningful unit, the outcome can be shortened versions of the pieces over four to six pages, without the festive character of the music being lost.

This collection does not simplify the technical demands of the pieces (i.e. make them “more playable”), but shortens their length. Apart from the new transition between the sections, the score adheres to the original, so that organists who already have the pieces in their repertoire do not need to do any extra practice.
