A BED OF HAY is a set of Seven Carols for Christmas for choir and orchestra or piano with words by Katherine Hayes.
They are: A Bed of Hay; Shepherds' Carol; Domine, Adoro Te; Christ is here, Holy Year; This Happy Night; The Night Wind is Cold; Hodie! Christus Natus est
This sequence of carols can be performed as a whole or separately, either with orchestral accompaniment or with piano (or organ). It is available as a complete Vocal Score with Piano (or organ) accompaniment in four different versions: Mixed Voice Choir (SATB), Mixed Voice Choir (SA+Men) with one stave of male voices for choirs with a shortage of men, with the male voices in the baritone range, Upper Voice Choir (SSA) or Male Voice Choir (TTBB).
All seven carols are also available singly in each of the different voice versions.
The orchestral score and parts (covering all seven carols) is the same for all versions.
Orchestration: 2 Flutes (2nd db. Piccolo), 2 Oboes, 2 Clarinets in Bb, 2 Bassoons, 2 Horns in F, 2 Trumpets in Bb, 3 Trombones, Tuba, Timpani, Percussion (2 players: Triangle, Sleigh Bells, Claves, Tambourine, Snare Drum, Glockenspiel, Tubular Bells, Cymbals), Harp (or Keyboard),
Strings (Violin 1, Violin 2, Viola, Cello, Bass) & Choir (SATB or SA+Men or SSA or TTBB).
In the early 1980s, I was teaching at the Guildhall School of Music, a comprehensive school in South-West London and a junior school in Stepney, all in the same week. At the junior school Katherine Hayes was teaching Drama and Poetry. We collaborated on many productions of musicals and Kath also wrote a few carols for the children to perform, with the music hurriedly scribbled down by me in spare moments and elaborated upon at a later date. The carols were put into storage and half-remembered (with affection!) by me until 2019 when I decided to arrange them for different choir combinations. These seven "new" carols are all approachable and memorable. I don't take the credit for that: Kath's lyrics always had the habit of immediately suggesting a tune to me. Delivery Times
We aim to dispatch every order within 24 hours excluding weekends.
However, we have learned from experience not to make promises regarding delivery. We aim simply to provide you with a reliable service at a reasonable cost. To keep our prices competitive we do not keep huge stocks of any particular item. No matter how good our stock control, there will occasionally be times when a particular item is not immediately available.
Sometimes this will be due to overwhelming demand, and sometimes it will be due to circumstances beyond our control, such as the item having gone to reprint or out of print. You should be aware that your payment is taken automatically online at the time you place your order. In the circumstances outlined above, we will do our best to contact you and inform you of any anticipated delays. You may cancel your order at any time if you are not happy to wait.
Although we make every effort to ship your order according to these guidelines, we will not be held responsible for any loss or damage caused by delayed delivery.

If you wish to cancel your order prior to dispatch, please email us at sales@scorestore.co.uk. We will terminate the transaction and refund any payments already made relating to your order. Once an order has been dispatched, we will accept returns where they meet the following conditions:
In the event that your item is faulty you may return it to us within twenty-one days and we will refund the cost of the item and pay the cost of returning the item to us.
If our error has led to an item has been mistakenly supplied to you and it is unopened and in as-new condition, you may return it to us within twenty-one days and we will refund the cost of the item and pay the cost of returning the item to us.
If you have decided that you do not wish to keep an item that has been correctly supplied, you may return it to us unopened in as-new condition within fourteen days. In this case we will refund the cost of the item and you will be responsible for the cost of returning the item to us. You may not return items that we have ordered specially for you unless they are faulty or supplied in error.
