Are you in music education?

The full range of traditional fiddle repertoire is now at your fingertips! Using these generous collections, you can create your own ceilidh, barn dance, jazz club or Sarajevo street-café. Some of this music is familiar, some more exotic, but all of it is absolutely authentic, faithfully arranged and, above all, hugely enjoyable.

Each title in the series is available in two formats: the Violin Edition (with an optional easy violin part and guitar chords); or the Complete Edition, which also includes both keyboard and violin accompaniments. Either format is hugely flexible, which means the music can be played as solos, duets or trios as well as with larger ensembles.

Edward Huws Jones has travelled extensively researching fiddle-playing traditions. In each book he explains the background of the particular musical style, giving his own suggestions for a lively performance.

I already have several other titles in the series and have been very pleased with all of them. I am a late learner, having restarted the violin after a 50 year gap. The pieces are very suitable for learners as the simple accompaniments can be played by beginners and the tunes by players of about grade 3 standard. The piano score booklet contains a more complex set of accompaniments for accomplished musicians.. Some tunes are quite easy, such as The Skye Boat Song, whereas a piece like Miss Lyall is more challenging. There is an excellent mix of haunting melodies, like The Flower of the Quern, and lively dance tunes such as The Blackthorn Stick.
It's worth buying the full version with CD and piano score particularly if you want to play with others or have a good pianist in the family. I use the piano score to write accompaniments for a viola playing friend.
My only criticism is the absence of representation from Wales , but there are some excellent Welsh pieces to be be found in The Celtic Collection.
